Where can I find free software to remove vocals from a song/mp3 for Karaoke use?
I am trying to remove vocals from mp3′s to create karaoke music. (NOT JUST QUIET IT WHERE YOU CAN STILL HEAR IT) but silent it at least 99%

All vocal removers use the same method and how well it works depends on how the track was mixed in the studio.
Audacity is a free app with a method to remove vocals.

Vocal removal method:
This is possible only for certain stereo tracks. When the vocals are exactly the same on both stereo channels, you can remove them by “subtracting” one channel from the other. This works for many studio recordings, where the vocal track is mixed exactly in the center. Be aware that bass and drums are usually panned to the center and can be removed or reduced also. Depending on how the track was mixed the vocal may only be reduced, not fully removed.
To do this in Audacity 1.2:
1. Import your stereo file into Audacity.
2. Open the track menu (click the arrow next to the track title), and choose “Split Stereo Track.”
3. Select the lower track (the right channel) by clicking it in the area around the mute/solo buttons.
4. Choose “Invert” from the Effects menu.
5. Using the track menus, change each track to “Mono.”
Press the Play button to hear the results. If you are lucky, the voice will be gone but most of the other instruments will be unaffected, just like a karaoke track. You can use the Export commands in the File menu to save the results.
Very basic Audacity starter guide.
(1) Because of patent restrictions Lame needs to be downloaded and installed separately to save tracks in mp3 format.
(2) Audacity will only accept and play files in wav, mp3, Ogg and aiff format apart from it’s own native .aup format.
A short noise for about one second indicates an incorrect file format.
(3) For any effects to be active a part or all of the track needs to be highlighted.
Left click on a blank part of the panel to the left of the waveform or use ctrl+a to highlight the whole track or left click, hold and drag to highlight a selected portion of it.
(4) The recording input is selected from a drop down list at the top right of the program.
For Vista users if “stereo mix” or “what you hear” is not active on the input list:
Vista: Click Start> Control Panel. Select Manage Audio Devices in the Sound Section.
Click the Recording Tab and if the Stereo Mix Option is missing right-click on an empty part of the window and left-click on Show Disabled Devices. Right-click on the icon and select Enable. This will enable recording of sound coming through your speakers.
(5) Multi-track recording setup:
Version 1.2 via File menu, version 1.3 via Edit menu.
Preferences / Audio I/O tab and check:
“play other tracks while recording new one”.
Version 1.3.12 – Edit / Preferences / Recording:
“Playthrough / Overdub / “play other tracks while recording new one”.
Import the first track then monitor it while recording subsequent track/s.
It’s best to use headphones while doing this to prevent feedback.
Audacity 1.3.12:
Has a vocal remover built in. Just select the whole track then vocal remover from the effect menu.
